Event information

Scotland remains scarred by sectarianism. Sadly, the story of interfaith relations has been marked by conflict as much as by comprehension. Sectarianism, Politics and the Law forms part of Scottish-Irish Conversations on Sectarianism, a series of in-depth discussions designed to extend and exchange knowledge between community leaders, academics and policy makers on this important issue. With repercussions for Scotland, Ireland and beyond, it will provide a venue for dialogue, drawing on the experience of the two countries.

Chaired by Professor Cairns Craig OBE FBA FRSE, Glucksman Professor of Irish and Scottish Studies, University of Aberdeen, the event will be led by Professor Barbara Fennell (Aberdeen), Dr Michael Brown (Aberdeen). Conversants currently include: Dr Gladys Ganiel, Assistant Professor in Conflict Resolution and Reconciliation, Trinity College, Dublin; and Rev Dr Alan David Falconer, formerly Minister of the Cathedral Church of St Machar, Aberdeen - and a former Director of the Irish School of Ecumenics and the eminent historian Professor Richard Finlay (University of Strathclyde). A further panellist representing the legal aspects of the debate will be announced shortly.

In association with the University of Aberdeen.
